TEXAS CITY, TX – A jury has found Christopher Lee Maldonado guilty of tampering with evidence after he concealed the body of Angela Mitchell, a mother of four who had gone missing under mysterious circumstances. Despite his conviction, the cause of Mitchell’s death remains undetermined.
Mitchell, 24, disappeared on May 5, 2022, when she failed to pick up her infant, prompting her mother to report her missing the following day. A crucial lead emerged after Mitchell’s family used a location-sharing app to trace her final whereabouts to Maldonado’s home address. Five days post-disappearance, her car was located, emitting a foul odor with swarms of flies nearby. It was parked in Texas City, and inside the trunk, the decomposing remains of Mitchell were discovered.
Mitchell was identified as a sex worker, and evidence presented during the trial confirmed that Maldonado was her last known client. Cell phone records from Mitchell and Maldonado revealed that the last traces of communication were on the evening of her disappearance, connecting Mitchell to Maldonado’s residence.

Medina disclosed that Maldonado contacted him on the night of May 5, offering $200 to relocate Mitchell’s car, unbeknownst to him, with her body inside the trunk. Following Maldonado’s request, Medina enlisted the help of two teenagers to move the vehicle. The grim discovery of Mitchell’s body was made when one of the teenagers offered a friend money to assist, and the friend opened the trunk to find the corpse.
Due to the advanced state of decomposition, forensics were unable to determine how Mitchell died. As a result, Maldonado did not face charges directly related to her death. However, his role in hiding the body led to his March 3 conviction for evidence tampering, a serious felony.
Maldonado has been sentenced to 120 days in jail, to be followed by ten years of probation, underscoring the gravity of his attempt to obscure the circumstances surrounding Mitchell’s untimely demise.
