SPRINGFIELD, MO – A quiet neighborhood was shattered late Wednesday night after authorities say a mother was killed with a hammer inside her own garage, while one of her children remained on the phone with emergency dispatchers, forced to listen as the violence unfolded just steps away.
The tragedy took place shortly after 11 p.m. on the outskirts of Springfield, where police responded to a chilling 911 call from a terrified juvenile. The child, whose identity has not been released due to age, pleaded for officers to come to the house, explaining that their father was attacking their mother. Investigators say 34-year-old Felipe Ayala is accused of attacking 47-year-old Suzette Flores, the mother of his three children, during a confrontation in the family’s garage.
