Mother with kids in her Jeep goes on multi-city hit and run spree striking 11 pedestrians

WARREN, MI – A woman from Michigan faces a battery of serious charges after allegedly hitting ten people with her vehicle in a rampage that spanned four Detroit suburbs, authorities say. The series of collisions left residents across multiple communities shaken and prompted a swift response from law enforcement.

The suspect, identified as Rachele Ricklefs, 30, is accused of intentionally using her Jeep to target pedestrians—including a bicyclist, bystanders, and even police officers—on the afternoon of September 26. Officials allege that Ricklefs had her two children, ages 12 and 6, inside the SUV during the spree.

According to investigators, the chaotic sequence began in Royal Oak, where the suspect reportedly struck a man on a bicycle. The incident quickly escalated as Ricklefs allegedly continued driving into Clawson. There, she is accused of ramming two police vehicles while officers attempted to stop her. During this confrontation, authorities say her 12-year-old son managed to escape the vehicle.

Police say Ricklefs then drove on to Hazel Park, where another pedestrian was reportedly hit. The alleged crime streak concluded in Warren, where officials claim she struck additional victims at several locations, including two individuals in a Walmart parking lot who were loading groceries into their car.

First responders arrested Ricklefs at the Walmart after a confrontation in which she allegedly resisted but was ultimately taken into custody without further incident. Warren police described the sequence of events as extraordinarily unusual, stressing that the rapid escalation could easily have resulted in fatalities.

The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office has charged Ricklefs with multiple felonies, including ten counts of assault with intent to murder. Additional charges include child abuse, assault with a dangerous weapon, assaulting a police officer, fleeing from police, and various counts of property destruction.

Prosecutors emphasized the gravity of the allegations and assured the public that they intend to pursue the case vigorously. Officials are also working to determine whether additional victims may have been involved, as further details are still emerging.

While the motive for the alleged attacks has not been released, authorities have acknowledged possible mental health concerns related to the case. Investigators have not provided further information on that aspect as their inquiry continues.

Ricklefs appeared before a judge in Warren’s 37th District Court on Monday for her arraignment. She remains in Macomb County Jail on a $750,000 bond. Her next court date is scheduled for October 7 for a probable cause hearing, followed by a preliminary exam set for October 14.

No fatalities were reported, and police have called it fortunate that the rapid series of crashes did not result in more severe injuries or deaths. The investigation remains active as officials continue to interview witnesses and identify potential additional victims.
