ELGIN, Texas — A tragic multi-vehicle collision on US Highway 290 North claimed the lives of two individuals late Saturday night, prompting a significant emergency response. Authorities were alerted to the crash at approximately 11:55 PM on August 30, 2025, near the intersection with Saratoga Farms Boulevard.
While on routine patrol, an officer who was refueling at a nearby gas station arrived quickly at the scene to aid in the rescue efforts. Eyewitnesses reported seeing two vehicles engulfed in flames, indicating the severity of the incident.
Emergency personnel discovered several victims trapped in their vehicles. Among them, 66-year-old Robbie Carter from McDade, Texas, was pronounced dead at the scene. First responders also managed to transport multiple injured parties to hospitals in Austin using a combination of ambulances and helicopters.
Tragically, 13-year-old Yareli Padierna from Elgin was also pronounced dead shortly after her arrival at the hospital. Four additional individuals remain hospitalized and are receiving treatment for their injuries.
