GEORGETOWN, Texas – A retired judge and his wife were tragically killed by their son in their home in the Georgetown area, law enforcement officials reported. The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office has charged 45-year-old Seth B. Carnes with capital murder in the deaths of Alfred “Burt” Carnes and Susan H. Carnes, both 74.
According to authorities, a 911 call alerted deputies to the shooting around 11:45 p.m. Monday. When law enforcement arrived at the scene, they found Seth Carnes leaving the home, and he allegedly confessed to shooting his parents. Upon entering the house, deputies discovered the bodies of Alfred and Susan Carnes, both of whom had been fatally shot.
Seth Carnes is currently in custody at the Williamson County Jail and could face life in prison or the death penalty if convicted. Investigators believe the tragic incident stemmed from a family dispute that escalated into violence and death.
Reports indicate that Seth Carnes told deputies he killed his mother because he believed she was trying to force him to take a sleeping pill, an action he did not want to comply with. When questioned about his father, he simply stated, “I was just looking for something and figured I would finish it off.”
