Nationwide Recall: Ready-to-Eat Chicken Alfredo Meals Linked to Listeria Outbreak, Urging Consumers to Check Their Freezers

Springfield, Mo. — A significant recall has been issued for ready-to-eat chicken alfredo meals due to potential listeria contamination, prompting health officials to alert consumers about possible risks associated with these products. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) has identified a concerning link to an ongoing listeria outbreak that has resulted in multiple hospitalizations and fatalities.

FreshRealm, a national food manufacturer, voluntarily recalled its chicken fettuccine alfredo meals on June 17. These products were distributed to major retailers like Kroger and Walmart across the United States. Health officials warn that samples of the recalled meals tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes, raising alarms about their safety for consumption.

The current listeria outbreak has affected 17 individuals in 13 states, with reports of three deaths and one miscarriage related to the strain. Although health authorities have not directly connected the outbreak to the recalled meals, testing revealed the same strain in a sample from FreshRealm. Additionally, purchase records for two of the affected individuals traced back to these meal products underscore the possible link.

As the investigation continues, officials are exploring whether specific ingredients in the meals may be the source of the contamination. The FSIS strongly advises consumers to check their freezers and refrigerators for any affected items.

The recalled products include various chicken alfredo meals, all of which bear the USDA mark of inspection. Notable items in the recall include “MARKETSIDE GRILLED CHICKEN ALFREDO WITH FETTUCCINE” and “HOME CHEF Heat & Eat Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo.” Specifically, consumers should be vigilant for packages with best-by dates from June 19, 2025, to June 27, 2025.

Customers are urged not to consume any recalled meals and to dispose of them or return them to the purchase location for a refund. The USDA is concerned that some of these products may still be in the possession of consumers, creating potential health risks.

For those with further questions regarding the recall, FreshRealm’s customer service is available at 888-244-1562. Additionally, consumers can reach the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 888-674-6854 for assistance regarding food safety. Given the seriousness of listeria infections, it is crucial for the public to remain informed about this recall and take the necessary precautions.
