BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — The community of Negros Occidental is reeling from a tragic incident in Silay City, where a violent attack on three siblings left one child dead and the others in critical condition. The brutal assault has sparked an outpouring of condemnation from local officials and residents alike, as they come together to demand justice for the young victims.
Authorities have moved quickly in their investigation, identifying a person of interest. Local police, alongside the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, have taken swift action, operating without waiting for formal directives. “We believe the suspect will be apprehended soon and held accountable for this heinous act,” Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson stated. Although a reward had been suggested for information leading to the suspect’s capture, the governor noted that it has become unnecessary, given that the individual’s identity is already known.
Support for the family of the victims, particularly the mother who recently returned from work in Saudi Arabia, has become a top priority. “We are coordinating efforts to assist the family, especially as one of the surviving victims remains unconscious and requires immediate medical attention,” Lacson said. He mentioned potential aid from the Philippine Red Cross and the Negros First Blood Center to address the urgent health needs of the victims.
The assault, which took place in Hacienda Badiang, Barangay E-Lopez, has prompted local leaders to offer a total of 100,000 pesos in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the suspect. While the investigation continues, details have emerged that suggest the teenage victim may have been specifically targeted. Brig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay, director of the Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region, emphasized the importance of gathering solid evidence in such a sensitive case. “We will leave no stone unturned to ensure that these children receive justice,” he affirmed.
Community leaders have rallied in response to the attack. Silay City Mayor Joedith Gallego pledged 25,000 pesos for information leading to an arrest, expressing heartbreak over the tragedy. “This senseless act of violence against innocent children has shattered our community,” she said. In addition, Negros Occidental 3rd District Representative Javier Miguel “Javi” Benitez has contributed 50,000 pesos, asserting that “such cruelty has no place in our province.” Former Talisay City Vice Mayor Samuel “Sam” Siote added another 25,000 pesos, stressing that no family should have to endure such an unprovoked tragedy.
Investigators are currently conducting interviews with witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage from the area. Authorities have assured the public that any tips will be handled confidentially, and the full reward will be awarded once the suspect is arrested and formally charged. This collective effort underscores the community’s determination to seek justice and restore a sense of safety in the wake of a deeply troubling incident.
