GOSHEN, N.Y. — A 55-year-old man from Newburgh has been found guilty of assault following a violent incident at a retail store earlier this year. Ronnie Williams’s conviction stems from a jury trial held in the Town of Newburgh Court, with sentencing scheduled for December.
The events leading to Williams’s arrest occurred on January 4 when a dispute broke out in the store regarding a return policy. A female shopper became upset after employees declined her request for a return. In an escalation of the conflict, she called Williams, who was waiting in a vehicle outside, to come in and confront the staff and customers.
Upon entering the store, Williams allegedly targeted another female shopper, striking her in the face. When a 22-year-old store employee intervened, he reportedly turned his aggression toward her, grabbing her by the throat and slamming her into a counter. The attack caused injuries to her ear, neck, and back.
Authorities from the Town of Newburgh Police conducted an investigation into the incident. District Attorney David Hoovler emphasized the seriousness of the case, stating that “physical violence is never an appropriate response to settle a disagreement.” He indicated that the prosecution was able to establish the defendant’s culpability through compelling testimony from the victim, along with video evidence documenting the assault.
Following his conviction, Williams was taken into custody and is being held at the Orange County Jail without bail. His upcoming sentencing will determine the consequences for his actions, which have been characterized as a blatant violation of the law and an affront to public safety.
As the case concludes, it serves as a reminder of the potential consequences of resorting to violence in conflicts and the legal repercussions that can follow such actions.
