LOS ANGELES, CA — Christina Fulton, a former girlfriend of actor Nicolas Cage, has filed a lawsuit against Cage and their son, Weston Cage Coppola, 34, alleging that she suffered severe injuries during an unprovoked attack by Weston last year. The legal action, taking place in Los Angeles County Superior Court, implicates Weston in assault and battery, while Cage is accused of negligence.
Fulton, 57, claims the altercation occurred when she visited her son on April 28, 2024, after being alerted by his friends about his distressed state. According to her, Weston attacked her in a series of violent outbursts at multiple locations within his residential complex, including the car park, elevator, and lobby. The assault purportedly resulted in Fulton sustaining a concussion, dental injuries, neck and throat trauma, abdominal pain, tinnitus, and post-traumatic stress disorder.
The lawsuit emphasizes that Nicolas Cage was aware of his son’s longstanding mental health issues and his history of aggressive behavior. Despite this, it alleges, Cage facilitated Weston’s behavior by financially supporting him, purchasing an apartment adjacent to his own for Weston, bailing him out of jail on several occasions, and consuming alcohol with him.
Legal representatives for Nicolas Cage have dismissed the claims as baseless. Brian Wolf, Cage’s attorney, stated that Weston is an adult and his actions are his own responsibility. He emphasized that Cage should not be held accountable for his son’s alleged actions against Fulton.
Joseph Farzam, Fulton’s attorney, argued that although generally parents are not held responsible for their adult children’s actions, exceptions exist for adults with mental disabilities who are dependent on their parental support. “This is a unique situation,” Farzam said, pointing out Weston’s violent past and the alleged exacerbation of these tendencies by his father’s enabling behavior.
Weston Cage previously faced legal issues, including arrests in 2011 for felony domestic violence and in 2017 for suspicions of DUI and hit-and-run, for which he entered a no-contest plea and underwent probation and rehabilitation.
This lawsuit marks another chapter in Fulton’s turbulent legal history with Cage. She previously sued Cage in 2009 over financial disputes, including claims that he failed to fulfill a promise to purchase a home for her, which settled in 2011 under confidential terms.
The current legal battle not only highlights the ongoing strained relationship between Fulton and the Cage family but also raises questions about parental responsibility and the boundaries of support for adult children facing mental health challenges. No trial date has been set for the case. Meanwhile, representatives for Weston Cage have yet to release any statements regarding the allegations.
