BATESVILLE, Miss. — A tragic shooting incident claimed the life of a 13-year-old Mississippi boy shortly before midnight on Sunday. Batesville Police officials confirmed that the young victim, identified as Cazarius Gardner from Como, was fatally injured when their vehicle was struck by gunfire.
Police reported that Cazarius was one of seven people, including his mother, inside an SUV when it was targeted. Despite the violence, authorities do not believe that the family members or friends in the SUV were involved in the shooting, nor do they think that Cazarius was the intended victim. The group had been visiting a relative’s house in the vicinity at the time of the attack.
Four individuals have been arrested and charged with second-degree murder in connection with the incident. The suspects include a 15-year-old, a 16-year-old, and a 17-year-old, who, under Mississippi law, will be charged as adults due to their use of firearms in the commission of a homicide. A 20-year-old named Kaderius Frost is also among those charged.
