NEW LONDON, Conn. — A Norwich man, Jerod White III, 31, was convicted by a New London Superior Court jury on charges of first-degree assault and robbery stemming from an incident that took place during a bonfire gathering in East Lyme in October 2020.
The altercation, which occurred in a secluded area of the woods near Ravenswood Trail, involved White and two accomplices who launched a violent attack on a 28-year-old man, as detailed by state prosecutors. The victim was savagely beaten with a wooden object and subjected to multiple punches to his head and face.
In the aftermath of the attack, the assailants robbed the victim, taking a bag that contained his money and jewelry. Despite sustaining serious injuries, the victim managed to escape the scene and seek assistance from a nearby passerby, highlighting the brutality of the assault.
The court proceedings were overseen by Honorable Judge Elizabeth C. Leaming, with Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Marissa N. Goldberg leading the prosecution. Inspector Robert Pickett also provided significant support in building the case against White.
