Nova Scotia RCMP Charge Two Youths in Disturbing Assault Captured on Video

Bible Hill, Nova Scotia — Two youths have been charged in connection with a violent assault on a peer, which was recorded and shared on social media. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) announced the charges after investigating the incident, which occurred in August.

The disturbing footage depicted the assailants repeatedly striking and kicking the victim. Authorities learned of the video on September 24, prompting them to take immediate action. According to RCMP Commander Marc Rose, the attack was both unprovoked and fueled by a false rumor, though specifics about the rumor have not been disclosed due to privacy concerns.

The police investigation revealed that the assault took place in Bible Hill, a community situated roughly 100 kilometers north of Halifax. While the victim did incur serious injuries, they were not life-threatening.

In a statement, police criticized the actions of the suspects as “cowardly and criminal” and expressed disappointment over bystanders who did not intervene during the attack. “It is disturbing and disheartening that witnesses did not come to the victim’s aid as they were being harmed,” Rose remarked.

Following the assault, the suspects allegedly intimidated the victim with threats of violence should they choose to report the incident. The charges against the two youths, one residing in Onslow and the other in Purcell’s Cove, include aggravated assault and uttering threats.

Both individuals have been released under conditions mandating their appearance in court on Monday. Commander Rose emphasized the importance of reporting violent behavior, urging individuals to contact local law enforcement or Crime Stoppers if they witness such acts. “We will investigate thoroughly and lay charges whenever possible,” he affirmed.

The case has sparked discussions regarding youth violence and the responsibilities of bystanders. Community members are urged to remain vigilant and supportive to prevent such incidents in the future.
