New York City – A suspect involved in a violent attack on two NYPD officers was indicted by a grand jury, while several other suspects, who were migrants, were reportedly arrested in Phoenix, Arizona after fleeing New York City. Yohenry Brito is the only suspect arrested and held on bail in connection to the assault, and he is the only one to have been indicted so far.
Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg presented evidence to the grand jury in hopes of bringing new charges against the other migrants who reportedly took part in the January 27 attack in Times Square.
In addition, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, along with the Department of Homeland Security, arrested the migrants who had fled New York City at a Greyhound bus station in Arizona. The migrants are believed to have fled after being arrested and released without bail following the assault on the officers.
According to authorities, it is believed that four migrants left New York by bus for California. It is not clear if some or all of them were the ones taken into custody in Phoenix. The incident involved as many as 14 people, and surveillance video showed calm interaction between five men and two police officers before the encounter turned violent, resulting in minor injuries to the officers.
Furthermore, police have indicated that there are arraignments pending for two suspects in the Bronx and two in Manhattan who are part of a coordination group of thieves on mopeds. On Long Island, another man who is allegedly a migrant was arrested for stealing a resident’s pro-Israel flag and then attacking the victim when pursued.
Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly stated, “Crimes committed because of our religion, our skin, who we love, will be prosecuted vigorously and thoroughly by our office,” following the incident.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are working to ensure that all individuals involved in these incidents are held accountable for their actions.
