Tangipahoa, LA — An altercation in a mobile home in Tangipahoa resulted in a tragic shooting on Wednesday evening, leaving two dead—including the suspected gunman—and a teenager wounded. Authorities are investigating the incident that has stirred considerable distress in the community.
The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office reported that 18-year-old Jayvelyn Smith, identified as the alleged shooter, fatally shot 25-year-old Genesis Kelly during the dispute. The violence, which occurred around 6 p.m., began inside a residence situated at the intersection of Spruce Lane and Center Street and soon escalated outside into the yard.
According to deputies, the confrontation started when Smith, who was visiting the home along with Kelly, brandished a firearm from his waistband but inadvertently shot himself in the leg during the process. Despite the injury, Smith allegedly managed to fire at Kelly, who died at the scene from the injuries.
During the incident, a 16-year-old resident of the home was also shot and subsequently hospitalized. The teenager’s condition has been described as stable, providing a slight relief amid the chaos.
