Evergreen, Colorado — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday that no charges will be filed against the parents of the teenager responsible for a tragic shooting at Evergreen High School last month. This decision comes after an investigation into the actions surrounding the incident, which left two students injured and the shooter deceased.
On September 10, 2025, 16-year-old Desmond Holly took his own life after shooting two classmates. Both students suffered severe injuries and spent considerable time recovering in the hospital. The community remains in shock from the events that unfolded that day, which has had lasting repercussions in the area.
According to investigators, DNA samples taken from Holly’s parents revealed no connection to the firearm used in the shooting. The parents’ attorney communicated with law enforcement, clarifying that the weapon, a Smith & Wesson .38 Special Revolver, was owned by the shooter’s grandparent. Records indicate that this firearm was purchased in Florida in 1966.
The family’s attorney stated that the gun was not easily accessible to Holly. Described as a family heirloom, the revolver was reportedly kept locked away in a safe and seldom taken out. The attorney emphasized that the weapon was only handled briefly by Holly’s father during rare occasions.
