FREEPORT TOWNSHIP, PA – A normally quiet corner of Armstrong County was thrown into turmoil just one day after Christmas, as authorities say an 18-year-old is responsible for a shooting that left his mother dead and his father wounded.
Police were called to a residence on Garrison Road around 2 p.m. Friday when reports came in of shots fired, resulting in multiple victims. Upon arrival, officers discovered a woman suffering from severe gunshot wounds. She was rushed across state lines to a hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia, but efforts to save her life were unsuccessful.
Inside the same home, officers also found an adult male, the woman’s husband, who had been shot as well. He was taken to the same hospital and treated for his injuries before being released in stable condition.
Investigators quickly determined that the alleged shooter was the victims’ own son, Jarrod Noll. The teenager is accused of turning the family’s home into the scene of a violent tragedy during what should have been a festive holiday season.
Following the shooting, Noll reportedly fled the scene on foot, vanishing into the rural terrain that surrounds the neighborhood. Troopers, fearing the danger posed by an armed suspect, launched a sweeping manhunt that involved search dogs, helicopters, and officers painstakingly combing through remote woods and fields.
As the search grew more desperate, police warned residents to be on high alert, stressing that the suspect should not be approached and could still be carrying a weapon. The urgent message rattled the tight-knit community, sending families indoors and prompting worry across the township.
After nearly a day on the run, Noll was apprehended in nearby West Virginia by state police late Saturday afternoon. Authorities said he did not resist when taken into custody, bringing an end to an intense search that gripped the region.
At the time of the shooting, the couple’s younger children were reportedly at home. While the violent act itself took place outside, authorities confirmed that the siblings are now in the care of a family member and did not suffer physical harm.
Noll is currently being detained in West Virginia as officials await his extradition to Pennsylvania. He faces charges of homicide and attempted homicide, marking a grim chapter for a family and community now left to grapple with the fallout.
