Liverpool, England – Police are seeking assistance to identify a group of youths involved in a brutal assault and robbery that left a 26-year-old man severely injured and hospitalized. The incident occurred on Queens Square on the evening of February 8, shortly before 6 p.m.
Detectives have released CCTV footage showing nine young individuals who are believed to be connected to the violent encounter. The victim, who was visiting Liverpool, was initially approached while asking for directions and subsequently attacked by the group.
Authorities reported the man attempted to escape by running towards Whitechapel but fell, allowing the assailants to catch up and continue their assault. The victim sustained multiple injuries and required immediate medical attention following the incident.
During the altercation, the attackers stole the man’s wallet, which contained cash, credit cards, an identity card, a driver’s license, and a travel card. The stolen bank cards were later used at a convenience store on Devon Street in the city center and a takeaway in Walton, suggesting multiple locations where the suspects might have gone post-attack.
Detective Inspector Christopher Carlin condemned the violence, describing it as a “shocking” act that has left not just physical scars but emotional trauma as well. He emphasized the commitment of local law enforcement to tackle such destructive behavior and reduce crime within the community.
“The level of violence in this attack and resultant fear sown in the wider community are completely unacceptable,” Carlin said. “Incidents like these disrupt the peace and safety of our residents and are a priority for the authorities to resolve.”
The Liverpool Police Department is appealing to the public for any witnesses or anyone with information to come forward. This includes individuals who recognize themselves or someone else in the released CCTV images. Carlin urged cooperation, noting that community involvement is crucial in deterring crime and assisting law enforcement efforts.
Information can be discreetly shared through direct messages to the Liverpool Police social media accounts or anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers. Authorities believe that with the public’s help, they can bring the culprits to justice and provide some relief to the victim and his family.
In their ongoing efforts, the police also remind the public of the importance of vigilance and community solidarity in preventing such violent crimes and protecting vulnerable individuals from harm. The investigation continues as officers piece together the events leading up to and following the brutal attack.
