ROCKFORD, Ill. – Rakim Chaney, a senior at Rockford Auburn, made headlines by setting a school record with 41 points in Auburn’s home victory against Hononegah on Saturday night. This milestone also marked his achievement of surpassing the 1,000-point mark for his career. It was a remarkable moment as he played his final home game in the Castle. In addition to Chaney’s remarkable performance, there were other notable results from both boys’ and girls’ basketball games on Saturday as well.

In the NIC-10 boys’ scores, Auburn defeated Hononegah with a score of 77-48, highlighted by Chaney’s record-breaking 41 points. Other scores included Guilford’s 72-65 victory over Lindblom, Freeport’s 49-43 win over Belvidere North, and Boylan’s 54-50 triumph over Rockford East. The day also saw other boys’ games with Neuqua Valley, South Beloit, Forreston, and Sycamore securing victories.

On the girls’ side, the 1A regional scores included Dakota’s 44-25 win over Durand, Lena-Winslow’s 53-28 victory against South Beloit, and Alden-Hebron’s 55-18 win over Hiawatha, among others. In the 2A regional scores, Rockford Christian, Winnebago, Johnsburg, Marengo, and Erie Prophetstown emerged victorious. Additionally, Rochelle secured a 52-33 win in the 3A regional scores, while Jacobs claimed a 40-23 victory over McHenry in the girls’ 4A regional scores.
