Robbery Suspect Connected to Death of Lubbock Mother Sentenced to 40 Years in Prison

LUBBOCK, Texas – Pablo Reyes, 30, has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for robbing and shooting a man in 2019. This case is connected to the 2019 missing person case of Sandy Cervantes, a Lubbock mother, which later turned into a homicide. Reyes was involved in another robbery that took place at the Lucky Mart in the 1500 block of 34th Street on June 20, 2019.

According to court records, the victim of the Lucky Mart robbery, David Rodriguez, was trying to fix his car after meeting with Cervantes when Reyes and another individual approached him with a gun. The two men robbed Rodriguez, tied him up, and forced him into the trunk of his car. Investigators later determined that Cervantes was kidnapped and killed as a result of these events.

LPD previously stated that two armed Hispanic males got into Michael McCoy’s pickup truck and forced him to drive to an ATM where McCoy was shot. Reyes will have to serve at least half of his 40-year sentence before he is eligible for parole. This is a significant development in the case of Sandy Cervantes’ tragic death, and the sentencing brings some closure to those affected by the events of 2019.

It’s worth noting that court documents spelled Reyes’s first name as “Pablo” while jail records spelled it as “Paublo.” This discrepancy may have caused some confusion during legal proceedings, but it does not change the outcome of the case and the impact it has had on the victim’s loved ones and the community. This case serves as a reminder of the importance of thorough investigations and the pursuit of justice in similar criminal cases.
