Founded by Emanuela Negura, the initiative seeks to foster a secure environment by allowing women to opt for female drivers when booking a ride. Negura revealed to local media that the service will employ both male and female drivers but will include a special feature that links female passengers with women behind the wheel.
In an effort to further augment safety, the LadyCab app will incorporate real-time GPS tracking, shareable emergency contacts, and route monitoring, all complemented by an emergency alert system connected to a 24/7 support team. These features are designed to alleviate concerns that many women have when using traditional taxi services.
Negura’s motivation for launching this service is deeply personal. Last July, she experienced an attack while working as a taxi driver in Dublin. A male passenger attempted to enter her vehicle, prompting a harrowing encounter that made her acutely aware of the dangers of the city’s nightlife. This led her to the conclusion that a dedicated female taxi service was essential.
The announcement of LadyCab has elicited mixed reactions on social media. While some users express support, noting that the service could significantly enhance safety for women, others raise concerns about fairness.
