Second Teen Arrested, Charged in Deadly Spanaway House Party Shooting

SPANAWAY, Wash. — In late March, a house party in Spanaway turned tragic when a shootout occurred, resulting in two teenage fatalities and four other people seriously injured. The second suspect involved, 18-year-old Christopher Lee Jr. Cobb, has recently been charged with first-degree assault in relation to the violent incident.

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office apprehended Cobb in Des Moines on April 17, with the Pierce County SWAT team aiding in the arrest. The charges stem from the events at a noisy house party in the 17800 block of 25th Ave Ct. East, which drew a series of emergency calls from concerned neighbors.

On the night of the shooting, as deputies were swarmed with calls from the neighborhood, shots were fired just seconds before their arrival. The chaotic scene left six individuals with gunshot wounds. Immediate lifesaving attempts were made for a teen found in the street; however, he was declared dead at the scene. Another victim succumbed to their injuries after emergency surgery. Four others, aged between 16 and 21, continue to recover in local hospitals from their injuries.

Neighboring security footage revealed a group of teens outside the house where at least two individuals drew handguns and exchanged gunfire. The incident has shaken the community and highlighted ongoing concerns about gun violence among youth.

In the wake of the shooting, a 17-year-old was arrested hours later. Identified as Isaiah Davion Williams, he faces two counts of first-degree murder and one count of second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm. Despite his age, Williams is being charged as an adult.

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office has faced scrutiny regarding their response times and overall capacity to manage such incidents. On the night of the tragedy, deputies were handling a separate homicide and an armed robbery, stretching their resources thin.

Deputy Carly Cappetto remarked on the challenges faced by the sheriff’s office, noting that while the staffing levels have remained consistent for over two decades, the population of Pierce County has significantly increased. “We are one of the lowest deputy to population ratio in the nation,” Cappetto explained. This staffing shortfall may contribute to delayed responses to emergency situations.

The shooting has propelled local discussions about enhancing law enforcement resources and addressing the underlying issues leading to youth violence. Meanwhile, Cobb has pleaded not guilty to his charges and is held on $100,000 bail as the community strives to heal from the tragic events.
