Cincinnati, Ohio — A 32-year-old man has become the seventh individual arrested in connection with a violent altercation that occurred in downtown Cincinnati, leaving six people injured. Gregory Wright faces several charges, including aggravated riot and aggravated assault. He was taken into custody on Monday afternoon and is expected to appear in court on Tuesday morning.
The incident in question unfolded in the early hours of July 26, near the intersection of Fourth and Elm streets, and gained widespread attention after video footage of the assault circulated online. According to police reports, Wright was involved in physically assaulting a victim while allegedly stealing their necklace. After taking the necklace, he reportedly recorded the remainder of the incident on his mobile device.
Wright’s arrest adds to a growing list of defendants connected to the brutal attack. Last week, a grand jury indicted six others, all facing multiple charges linked to the same incident. Those indicted include Patrick Rosemond, 38; Jermaine Matthews, 39; Montianez Merriweather, 34; DeKyra Vernon, 24; Dominique Kittle, 37; and Aisha Devaughn, 25. Each of these suspects is charged with three counts of felonious assault, three counts of simple assault, and two counts of aggravated rioting.
The video of the beating has sparked outrage in the community, with many expressing concerns over public safety. Hamilton County Prosecutor Connie Pillich stated that the recordings depict a level of violence that contradicts the city’s values. “What I saw on video is not the Cincinnati I know and love. These charges hold those involved in the attack accountable,” she said.
The violent incident has raised questions about safety in the downtown area and prompted residents to express fears about potential future violence. The Cincinnati Police Department has not yet provided further comments regarding the ongoing investigation, nor have they addressed the increased concerns from the public.
As the court proceedings progress, the community remains on edge, waiting for updates on the judicial process for those involved. The severe nature of the assault, combined with its viral spread, has highlighted the pressing need for discussions about crime and safety in urban settings.
This latest arrest reflects ongoing law enforcement efforts to identify and apprehend all individuals involved in the incident, ensuring justice for the victims and the broader community.
