CLOQUET, Minn. – Two people were shot and killed at a hotel in Cloquet, and the suspected shooter, a 32-year-old man from Ramsey, died by suicide, according to the police.
The incident occurred at the Super 8 hotel in Cloquet on Monday at around 6:30 p.m. The police were called after an employee reported that another hotel worker had been attacked. When the police arrived, they found a 22-year-old woman with a gunshot wound. She was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital, where she later died. Additionally, a 35-year-old man was found dead with a gunshot wound in a car in the hotel parking lot.
After issuing a shelter-in-place alert to the community, officers discovered the 32-year-old man dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound and a firearm next to him outside the hotel – they used surveillance video to confirm that he was the shooter. The authorities have not released the identities of the victims, and no motive for the shooting has been revealed.
According to friends and family members, Shelby Marie Trettel, a front desk worker, was among the victims, as reported by the Star Tribune. The investigation is ongoing, and the community is left grappling with the tragic event that unfolded at the hotel in Cloquet.
