Shooting Claims Young Mother in Carrollton: Fourth Suspect Arrested as Family Seeks Justice for ‘Lay Lay’

CARROLLTON, Ga. — A fourth suspect was apprehended in connection with the tragic shooting that claimed the life of 26-year-old Lareon Brown, a mother of three. The incident unfolded on Sixth Street as Brown and her sister were waiting for transportation after a pajama party during the early hours on Sunday.

Brown’s family reflected on the devastating loss, with her sister, Netorian Crawford, describing the painful reality of losing her sibling. “My sister literally lost her life for nothing. She wasn’t involved. She was just having a good time,” Crawford said. The shooting reportedly erupted following a confrontation just after 1:30 a.m. on a street lined with duplexes.

Kathy Cheeks, another sister of Brown’s, was also caught in the violence and suffered a gunshot wound to the leg. Family members shared the heart-wrenching fact that Brown, affectionately known as “Lay Lay,” leaves behind three young children: a one-year-old, a four-year-old, and an eight-year-old.

In the days following the incident, the Carrollton Police Department arrested Geriguez Shadrion Lowery, 34, marking him as the fourth suspect tied to the case. Earlier arrests included Cyntez Worthy and Jamine Hutchinson, both of Villa Rica, along with Zontavius Vaughn from Carrollton. All four suspects now face charges of murder and assault.

As the investigation continues, the community is grappling with the senselessness of the violence. Local leaders are increasing calls for accountability and safety measures to curb gun violence, especially in areas where families gather. The shooting has heightened concerns about public safety in Carrollton, prompting discussions on how to better protect residents from similar tragedies.

The Brown family is urging community members to remember Lareon not just as a victim, but as a vibrant person dedicated to her children. They hope to shed light on the impact of gun violence and advocate for change as they mourn their deep loss.
