TOWN OF GERMANIA, Wis. — A shooting late Wednesday night in Shawano County left one man dead and another in custody after a violent confrontation between acquaintances.
Authorities responded to a report of the incident around 9:15 p.m. on Highway M, just west of Tigerton. A 911 caller alerted law enforcement, indicating that a friend had been shot during a dispute. During the call, the caller mentioned he had locked himself in another structure on the property while the shooter attempted to break in.
Upon arriving at the scene, deputies faced initially non-compliant behavior from the alleged shooter, who was ultimately taken into custody without further incident.
The victim, a 67-year-old resident from Greenleaf, was discovered unresponsive in a garage. His identity has not been publicly released pending notification of family members.
The suspect, a 74-year-old man from the Clintonville area, suffered minor injuries during the altercation and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. He has since been booked into the Shawano County Jail, with his name withheld as well.
Investigators have revealed that the shooter and the victim, along with the 911 caller, shared a connection through co-ownership of hunting land in the Germania area. Witnesses on the property have been cooperative, providing detailed accounts of the events leading up to the shooting.
