Shooting Incident on Tulsa Trail: Man Dies After Altercation with Suspected Attacker

Tulsa, Okla. — Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on a trail in north Tulsa on Sunday morning. Around 9 a.m., a woman walking along the Osage Trail near the Langston Tulsa Campus stumbled upon a man lying in the grass with a gunshot wound. Despite the prompt arrival of police and paramedics, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

As police were examining the area, a man approached an officer and confessed to the shooting. According to the man’s account, he was walking his dog when he was confronted by a homeless individual who allegedly threatened him and his pet. Initially, the dog walker ignored the threat, choosing instead to sit on a bench with his dog. However, the situation escalated when the man with the machete emerged from the woods in an aggressive manner. In self-defense, he claimed to have shot the individual with his firearm.

The shooter, who reportedly did not have his cellular phone at the time of the incident, later made his way to the Tulsa Police Detective Division to provide a detailed statement. Investigators recovered a machete from the deceased, an element that authorities believe supports the shooter’s version of events.

Law enforcement collected all relevant evidence, including the firearm used in the shooting. The victim’s identity was established through items found at a nearby campsite, but officials are still working to notify next of kin.

At this stage of the investigation, the man who fired the shot has not been charged. The district attorney’s office will review the incident to determine if any legal action is necessary. Meanwhile, police are urging anyone with additional information related to the case to reach out to Tulsa Crime Stoppers.

The community remains on alert as local authorities work to piece together the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
