WASHINGTON, DC – Six individuals were shot in Northeast D.C. on Wednesday evening, one of whom unfortunately succumbed to their injuries. The shooting occurred on 21st St. near Maryland Avenue around 6 p.m., resulting in a tragic loss of life and multiple injuries of varying degrees of severity.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), the victims included two men, one woman, a 9-year-old child, and a 12-year-old child, with the latter three sustaining non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities later released images of a suspect vehicle, described as a light blue Toyota sedan with dark tints and black rims, seen driving eastbound on Maryland Avenue NE, but lacking front tags and with an unconfirmed license plate number.
The MPD reported that the assailants, who pulled up in the car and began shooting, may not have had any prior connection to the victims. This senseless act of violence has left the community reeling, with local officials like Ward 5 ANC Commissioner Kathy Henderson expressing outrage and frustration at the incident.
