SPRINGVILLE, Utah – Law enforcement officials have reclassified the death of a man found deceased in his van in Springville in 2022 as a homicide. Chase Micheal Caimi, a 32-year-old resident of Springville, has been accused of murder and obstruction of justice in connection to the incident.
The deceased individual, 56-year-old Bobby Pool, was discovered in the driver’s seat of a van in an industrial area near 1851 N. Parkway Court on Oct. 8, 2022. Initially, the Springville police labeled the death as “suspicious,” seeking assistance from the public to obtain more information.
According to authorities, Caimi made the 911 call and upon arrival, the police found Pool “laying down in the driver’s seat in a sleeping bag with a blanket around him. The victim had a bullet hole in his left temple,” as stated in the court documents.
Although no gun or casing were found in the vehicle and no evidence suggested self-infliction of the gunshot, investigators later retrieved a bullet from the dashboard of the van. Caimi and a female companion with him that night were questioned by detectives on Oct. 17, 2022, with Caimi providing a statement described as “illegible” in the charging documents.
Subsequently, Caimi was arrested in Colorado on a federal warrant on Jan. 4, and the female companion agreed to a follow-up interview. She revealed that on the night of the shooting, both she and Caimi had consumed large amounts of alcohol, and Caimi had expressed his intention to shoot the victim. Caimi then proceeded to shoot Pool twice, with one shot hitting him in the temple.
Court records do not disclose the specific charges that Caimi faces in Colorado, and Utah authorities are currently seeking his extradition on the murder charge.
