MARIETTA, GA – A Georgia grandmother was allegedly murdered by a man who followed her home and strangled her with his body weight, local authorities and family members reported. The tragic incident has left the family and community in shock.
Hector David Sagastume Rivas, 21, faces charges of felony murder in the death of 52-year-old Camillia Williams. Authorities say Williams was killed late on March 12 or in the early hours of March 13. The accused reportedly followed Williams to her home in Marietta, where he allegedly committed the crime before leaving her body in a yard near her residence.
Williams’ family was devastated to find her body on the morning of March 13, especially given the tragic irony of its location. “They found her in the bushes, which turned out to be a Camellia bush,” said Arsene Williams, one of her brothers. “It’s beyond belief and incredibly difficult to process.”
The night before the incident, Williams had expressed concern to a family member about a man who appeared to be following her as she was leaving a local store. Tony Williams, another brother, recounted that she had mentioned the man’s presence to a niece while in a dollar store. Family members believe this individual was Sagastume Rivas.
Authorities have not identified a clear motive yet, but Sagastume Rivas reportedly admitted to the killing, detailing his method of using his knees after an initial chokehold attempt failed. The details of the murder have left the family in disbelief and mourning.
Williams’ niece, Danielle Williams, expressed shock over the brutality of the act, describing it as “horrific” and “mind-blowing.”
As the investigation continues, Sagastume Rivas is being held without bond and awaits further legal proceedings. The Cobb County police are working to uncover additional details that may provide more insight into the motive behind the senseless act.
Camillia Williams, originally from Louisiana, leaves behind a family struggling to come to terms with her untimely death. The community is rallying in support, providing comfort and assistance where possible as they await justice for Williams.
