Gainesville, Florida – Kathy Kleiner Rubin’s life took a terrifying turn when she became a victim of one of the most notorious serial killers in history. At the age of 20, Kathy was attacked by Ted Bundy in her college dorm room, leaving her with life-threatening injuries.
Following her diagnosis with lupus and undergoing chemotherapy, Kathy started her journey as a survivor. However, her resilience was put to the test when a man broke into her college dorm room in the early hours of the morning. The assailant, later identified as Ted Bundy, brutally attacked Kathy and her roommate, resulting in life-altering injuries for both women.
The impact of Bundy’s attack extended beyond Kathy and her roommate, as he went on to murder two other women in the same building. The traumatic experience left Kathy in excruciating pain and in need of multiple surgeries to recover from the injuries she sustained. The emotional toll of the attack also affected Kathy’s family and the families of Bundy’s other victims.
Despite the trauma she endured, Kathy found the strength to testify against Bundy during his criminal trial in 1979. Hearing about the brutality of Bundy’s attacks on other victims was a harrowing experience for Kathy, but she remained resolute in seeking justice for herself and the others affected by Bundy’s reign of terror.

In collaboration with author Emilie Le Beau Lucchesi, Kathy wrote a book titled “A Light in the Dark: Surviving more than Ted Bundy” to give a voice to Bundy’s victims and shed light on the true nature of the serial killer.
