Sydney, Australia — A Fijian man has been formally accused of fatally stabbing his girlfriend in what authorities are calling a case of domestic violence. The incident occurred in a residential unit on the Great Western Highway in Kingswood, a suburb of Sydney.
On a recent afternoon, emergency services were dispatched to the residence after flatmates of the couple reported a disturbance. Upon arrival, they discovered 21-year-old Nunia Kurualeba with severe injuries. Despite immediate life-saving attempts, Kurualeba succumbed to two stab wounds in her chest and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Eyewitnesses described seeing a man flee the complex shortly before police arrived, triggering an urgent manhunt throughout the area. Several hours later, police apprehended 21-year-old Jeremaia Tuwai, Kurualeba’s boyfriend, on Derby Street in nearby Penrith.
Following his capture, Tuwai was charged with murder related to domestic violence. He was held without the option for police bail. In a subsequent legal proceeding, he did not seek bail and his representation, provided by Legal Aid, indicated plans to request mental health support for him while he remains in custody.
