Suspect Arrested Following Fatal Barbershop Shooting in Baton Rouge

Baton Rouge, La. — A man has been arrested following a shooting that occurred outside a barbershop, resulting in the death of a 29-year-old. The incident took place Wednesday evening on Platt Drive, prompting an immediate response from local law enforcement.

Officers with the Baton Rouge Police Department discovered Marvin Tolliver with a gunshot wound shortly after 5:49 p.m. He was declared dead at the scene.

Authorities report that the confrontation originated from an argument between a patron and an employee inside the barbershop. Sylvester Bouligny III has been named as a suspect in the case. Investigators indicated that after initially leaving the establishment, Bouligny returned accompanied by two other individuals. They confronted the barbershop employee, leading to a physical altercation. During this struggle, the two companions allegedly discharged firearms, striking Tolliver, who was reportedly not part of the fray.

Bouligny was apprehended the following day, on Thursday, and is currently being held at the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. He faces charges of Principal to Second Degree Murder and Illegal Use of a Weapon.
