Suspect Killed in High Speed Police Chase After Reported Shooting on Hudson Avenue

ALBANY, N.Y. – Albany Police Chief Eric Hawkins and Mayor Kathy Sheehan held a press conference Wednesday evening to address a reported shooting on Hudson Avenue. According to Chief Hawkins, Albany Police received reports of shots fired in the area of 400 Hudson Avenue at around 1:03 p.m.

The victim of the shooting on Hudson Avenue was treated on scene and is currently in critical condition at Albany Medical Center. Police interviewed witnesses and obtained a description of the vehicle involved. Surveillance observed the vehicle heading southbound on I-87.

Albany police tracked the suspect south on the Thruway, and a “Be On the Lookout” was issued to the New York State Police. According to Chief Hawkins, state police were able to initiate a traffic stop in the town of Ramapo in Rockland County at around 2:55 p.m. on I-87. During the stop, the suspect in the vehicle fired shots at a trooper, resulting in the trooper discharging his firearm and the suspect being fatally wounded.

One trooper sustained minor injuries, and the other was unharmed. Mayor Sheehan praised the swift response of the police and emphasized the investment made by Governor Hochul to prevent and respond to violence in the city.
