Nashville, Tenn. — A local man has surrendered to Nashville authorities in connection with a violent altercation in East Nashville that left another man dead, police confirmed. This development comes exactly one week after the assault occurred at the intersection of South 5th and Russell Streets.
The individual in custody, identified as 35-year-old Clifford Jones Jr., reportedly turned himself in this Monday to face charges stemming from the deadly encounter on October 23. Jones is accused of violently assaulting 59-year-old James Sutton, resulting in catastrophic injuries that led to Sutton’s death.
Surveillance footage from the area captured the incident, showing Jones Jr. forcefully pushing Sutton to the ground. The impact caused severe head and spinal injuries as well as multiple broken ribs to Sutton, who was subsequently rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for urgent care.
