AUSTIN, Texas – Suspected serial killer Raul Meza Jr. has been arrested for the alleged murders of Gloria Lofton, 65, in 2019, and former probation officer Jesse Fraga, 80, in 2023. Meza called police last May to confess, and authorities suspect he may be linked to as many as 10 other homicides in Texas.
Since his arrest, Meza has not been tried for any of the alleged murders. Law enforcement in Austin continues to investigate the suspected killing spree, seeking to unravel the full extent of Meza’s alleged crimes.
Former Austin Police Sgt. Bruce Mills expressed concern, stating, “Here’s a serial killer that justice was not served.”
Investigators have issued a search warrant for Meza’s Google account, spanning from November 1, 2016, to May 29, 2023. They believe this information may tie him to a 2018 Austin cold case, as well as to at least two homicides in San Antonio.
Meza has a history of criminal activity dating back to 1982 when he sexually assaulted and strangled an 8-year-old girl. He has spent time in prison, violated parole, and is suspected to have committed additional sexual assaults and homicides after his supervised release ended in 2016.
Law enforcement is also exploring the possibility that Meza is connected to unsolved homicides, including that of college student Nicole Coleman, whose body was found in Austin in 2018.
The search for justice in these cases continues, as Meza’s alleged actions have left a lasting impact on the victims’ families and the communities affected.
