DUNLAP, TN – A quiet Tennessee neighborhood turned into a crime scene when a homeowner allegedly returned to a startling discovery: his wife with another man. Authorities say the confrontation ended in bloodshed early Saturday morning.
Jonathan Belk, 41, is accused of fatally stabbing 18-year-old Billy J. Floyd after finding him with his wife in their Dunlap home. Police discovered the grim scene at the residence on Powerline Road, about 40 miles north of Chattanooga.
According to authorities, Belk was standing at his doorway, covered in blood, when they arrived.
When law enforcement searched the property, they found Floyd’s body in a trash can, a tragic end for the young man who had just celebrated his 18th birthday. During questioning, Belk reportedly confessed to the attack, citing the discovery of his wife’s infidelity as the trigger for his violent actions.
His wife, who was also injured in the altercation, was hospitalized with multiple stab wounds, officials said. Belk allegedly expressed more concern about his marriage than his impending legal challenges, telling detectives he was worried about his relationship because he “offed” Floyd.
Belk currently faces several charges, including criminal homicide, and is being held at the Sequatchie County Jail.
Floyd, known to loved ones as “Lil Bill,” hailed from nearby Jasper. His obituary described him as an avid outdoorsman who cherished time with family and friends. His loss is deeply felt in the community, with a friend launching a GoFundMe to support Floyd’s funeral costs, highlighting the shock and sorrow that ripple through those who knew him.
The case adds another layer to the ongoing discussion about domestic disputes and the unintended consequences of violent reactions, underscoring the far-reaching impact on the individuals involved and the wider community.
