EL PASO, TX – A Texas man is facing murder charges, accused of brutally killing his 74-year-old father after allegedly becoming convinced that his parent was an alien. The chilling events unfolded at an El Paso home, where police discovered Victor Gerardo Contreras’ decomposing body last weekend.
Police arrested 39-year-old Jaime Adrian Contreras following an investigation that revealed allegations of disemboweling, throat slitting, and leaving his father to die.
Investigators said Jaime was driven by an obsession with the idea that an extraterrestrial had inhabited his father’s body and was intent on harvesting organs.
Two days before the murder, authorities responded to a call for help from the elder Contreras, who reported that his son had attacked him with a hammer. According to local law enforcement, Victor’s wife recalled her husband’s fearful description of Jaime’s behavior, stating he “was acting crazy again.”
Despite this alarming report, when officers arrived, they assessed Jaime’s mental state as “okay.” The confrontation was subsequently dismissed as a non-incident, highlighting serious questions about the handling of previous warnings regarding Jaime’s behavior.
The arrest brought to light Jaime’s troubling recent history with his father. Court records revealed past incidents, including one where he roamed the neighborhood carrying a decapitated rabbit and another in which he reportedly had an emotional breakdown, also related to beliefs about his father’s supposed alien nature.
Jaime Contreras is now in custody at the El Paso County Jail, with his bond set at $2 million. The community is grappling with the horrific nature of the crime, which has left neighbors in shock and searching for answers as to what might have been done to prevent it.
As the investigation continues, authorities and residents alike are left contemplating the intersection of mental health and potential violence, with many urging a re-evaluation of how such cases are handled in the future.
