Three FIRs Issued Following Violent Clash in Ghosi: Multiple Arrests Underway as Tensions Simmer

Varanasi, India — A series of violent events erupted in Ghosi, Mau district, resulting in the lodging of three separate FIRs (First Information Reports) by local police following the conflicts on Friday night. Authorities have been actively investigating the incidents, which began with a minor traffic dispute and escalated into a significant public disturbance involving community members and law enforcement.

Mau district’s Superintendent of Police, Elamaran G, reported that the initial FIR was filed on behalf of a young man’s mother, after her son was assaulted with a bladed weapon during the vehicular altercation. This attack acted as a catalyst, setting off a series of protests and violent retaliations which targeted a community health center and police forces.

In the community’s outrage, multiple individuals from the victim’s side began a protest that quickly turned violent. Participants allegedly threw bricks at police officers and damaged vehicles, with the disturbance extending to the local community health center. The police were compelled to use force to control the mob and disperse the crowds, maintaining a heightened security presence in Ghosi over the weekend.

The police crafted sketches of the suspects involved in the violence and organized teams for their apprehension. Efforts were also focused on locating the accused individual responsible for the initial assault on Sukkhu Rajbhar, the victim of the traffic dispute.

The altercation itself took place on Friday night when Rajbhar’s motorcycle accidentally collided with that of another youth. What began as a minor confrontation quickly escalated when Rajbhar was attacked.

Following the incident, two additional FIRs were registered: one by the officer in charge at the Ghosi police station and another by the person in charge of the assaulted community health center (CHC). The complaints detailed that an unruly mob pelted the CHC with stones, damaged police vehicles, and generally disrupted law and order on the national highway running through the area.

Detailed in the complaints were accusations against about 200 unidentified individuals along with charges against 38 named suspects, highlighted by several serious allegations including rioting, obstruction of government duties, and damage to public property. Over 250 people remain unidentified but are accused of participating in the unrest.

As investigations continue, law enforcement has expressed commitment to restoring peace and order in Ghosi, ensuring that all those involved in the propagation of violence are held accountable under the law. The community, meanwhile, remains tense but hopeful as efforts to mediate and address the underlying causes of the conflict are underway.
