The Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Kavon Matthews, who was serving two sentences for simple burglary from Orleans Parish, died on October 16. The following day, Michael Johnson, incarcerated for life due to an armed robbery conviction from East Baton Rouge Parish, also passed away. Both cases are under investigation, with autopsies requested to find the causes behind their deaths.
Compounding the situation, sources revealed that another inmate at the center attempted suicide on October 18, though that individual is now recovering.
