NASHUA, N.H. — A 23-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder following a shooting at a local country club that resulted in one death and multiple injuries. Hunter Nadeau, a Nashua resident, is accused of fatally shooting 59-year-old Robert DeCesare during an incident that unfolded at the Sky Meadow Country Club late Saturday night.
The New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office announced that Nadeau’s arraignment is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Monday, with the possibility of additional charges pending. An autopsy for DeCesare is set to take place on Monday as well.
Witnesses report chaos erupted while over 100 patrons were present at the country club. Nadeau is also alleged to have injured two other individuals—one employed at the restaurant and another who was dining there. At least four additional people sustained non-gunshot injuries while trying to escape the scene. Emergency responders transported two gunshot victims, one with a facial wound and the other with a hand injury, to Southern New Hampshire Medical Center. The more critically injured victim was subsequently airlifted to a Boston hospital.
According to officials, the gunshot victim is currently in critical but stable condition. Nashua Fire Rescue also reported other injuries concerning panic attacks, blunt force trauma, and lacerations sustained during the frantic evacuation from the club.
While the investigation is ongoing, authorities stated they have yet to establish any personal connection between Nadeau and DeCesare. Nadeau had previously worked at the club for about a year. Witness accounts suggest he appeared to target DeCesare specifically. Some bystanders noted that Nadeau was vocal during the incident, making remarks that included statements about security and political commentary. However, investigators believe his comments likely aimed to incite disorder rather than convey a particular ideology.
Amid the chaos, local patrons acted swiftly, helping to contain the situation and protect each other. Attorney General John Formella commended their bravery, emphasizing that their actions may have prevented further tragedy.
The incident left a deep impact on DeCesare’s family. His mother, Evie O’Rourke, described him as a devoted father who instinctively shielded his wife and daughter during the attack. With his daughter set to marry in six weeks, his family is grappling with immense loss.
First responders from various communities in New Hampshire and nearby Massachusetts converged on the scene shortly after reports of the shooting began flooding in around 7:30 p.m., as emergency communications detailed the dire situation unfolding within the club.
The Sky Meadow Country Club has expressed its cooperation with law enforcement but refrained from providing additional public commentary while the investigation continues. Governor Kelly Ayotte extended her condolences, offering thoughts and prayers for the victims and acknowledging the efforts of law enforcement in securing the scene.
As the investigation progresses, authorities are meticulously piecing together the circumstances leading to this tragic event, promising to keep the public informed as more information becomes available.
