Tragedy Strikes Family BBQ in Houston: One Dead, 13 Injured in Late-Night Shooting Incident

Houston, Texas — A weekend family barbecue turned tragic early Sunday morning when gunfire erupted, resulting in one fatality and at least 13 injuries, according to law enforcement officials.

The identities of the victims have not yet been released, and authorities have stated that they are still working to determine the ages of those affected. Multiple individuals were detained at the scene; however, Assistant Police Chief Patricia Cantu indicated that it remains uncertain whether the primary suspect was among them.

Officers responded to reports of the shooting shortly after 12:50 a.m., arriving just minutes later to find the sound of gunfire still echoing in the vicinity. Cantu noted that witnesses reported the chaos began when an uninvited guest arrived at the gathering. Initially asked to leave, the individual complied only to later return and open fire.

“After he left, he started shooting in the area,” Cantu explained, adding that there was also return fire from those inside the residence. The police are keen to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the incident or can provide pertinent information regarding the events.

Among the injured, several individuals are reported to be in critical condition and undergoing surgeries, while others are stable. The police continue their investigation, hoping to gather more details about the circumstances that led to this violent outbreak.

As the community reels from this sudden act of violence, local leaders are calling for greater awareness and action to prevent similar incidents in the future. The investigation remains ongoing, with law enforcement urging anyone who has information to come forward.
