NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A 20-year-old basketball player from Fisk University was tragically shot and killed on a Nashville highway, leaving the community in shock. Andre Bell, a sophomore pursuing a degree in Business Administration and a member of the university’s basketball team, was en route back to campus after volunteering at a gymnastics event when the incident occurred.
The shooting took place on the I-65 north highway at the I-40 interchange shortly before midnight on January 11. Bell was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries the following day, prompting an outpouring of grief from friends, teammates, and university officials.
Officials from the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting. According to preliminary reports, Bell was driving with two friends in his white Nissan Sentra when they noticed a dark sedan alongside them. Eyewitness accounts suggest that the friends were distracted by their phones when they heard multiple gunshots, realizing moments later that Bell had been struck.
