Tragedy Strikes Fort Myers: One Dead in Early Morning Shooting, Suspect Arrested

FORT MYERS, Fla. — A shooting near a bustling intersection on Sunday morning left one person dead and prompted a significant emergency response. The Fort Myers Police Department identified 41-year-old Yanko Romero as the suspect in the incident, which occurred shortly before 9:15 a.m. at the intersection of Palm Beach Boulevard and Oasis Grand Boulevard.

The violent encounter unfolded in the parking lot of a public boat ramp adjacent to the Oasis Grand. Witnesses reported hearing a gunshot, with one resident stating that police officers knocked on his door, instructing him to vacate the premises for safety reasons. Local authorities have confirmed that nobody else is being sought in connection to the incident and that Romero and the victim were not previously acquainted.
