SCOTT COUNTY, Miss. — A tragic incident unfolded at a gender reveal party on Sunday when an 18-year-old was shot and killed, leading to murder charges against another attendee. Anthony Boyd is accused of fatally shooting Jetavion Johnson during the celebration at Roosevelt State Park, sending shockwaves through the community.

Authorities responded to a 911 call shortly after 5 p.m. reporting that Johnson had been shot multiple times in the stomach. He was rushed to a local hospital but unfortunately was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Scott County Sheriff Mike Lee indicated that Boyd and Johnson were acquainted, having both been involved with the woman for whom the gender reveal was being held. An argument reportedly erupted between the two, escalating into gunfire near the park’s pool area.

Jacob Howell, at the park with his family, described the chaos that ensued when the shooting began. “All of a sudden, just rapid fire—boom, boom, boom,” Howell said. “Everyone started getting up, screaming, running for cover.” Howell assisted others, including children, in fleeing from the pool area as panic set in.

Residents of Scott County expressed deep sorrow and disbelief over the violent turn of events. Trevor Blaylock, a local, remarked on the irony of a joyful celebration spiraling into tragedy. “It’s just terrible. People trying to have a good time at an event, and then something like this happens. We really need to find a way to stop this kind of violence,” he said.

Despite the shooting, Sheriff Lee reassured the public of the park’s safety, emphasizing that the incident appears to be isolated. He encouraged visitors to continue enjoying the natural beauty and recreational opportunities the state park offers.
