KATSINA, Nigeria — A school attack in Kebbi State has drawn strong condemnation from Katsina State Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, following the violent incident at the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School in Maga. Gunmen attacked the school, leading to the death of a staff member and the abduction of several students.
Governor Radda expressed his sorrow over the killing of the school’s Vice Principal, Hassan Yakubu Makuku, calling the incident a grim indication of the rising violence directed at educational institutions in northern Nigeria. In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, Radda labeled the attack as “the worst form of criminality.”
The governor extended heartfelt condolences to Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris, the local government, and the families enduring this tragedy. He emphasized that such violent episodes jeopardize the safety of students and threaten the nation’s future.
“This assault on a school represents not only an attack on education but also on our shared aspirations for a prosperous future,” Radda stated. “We must unite against these criminals who jeopardize the safety of our children.”
He called upon law enforcement agencies to expedite efforts for the safe recovery of the abducted students and to ensure that those responsible are swiftly brought to justice.
In light of the attack, the governor urged for increased collaboration among security forces in the area to prevent similar occurrences. He also shared prayers for the quick and safe return of the missing students and reaffirmed his commitment to initiatives aimed at restoring peace in vulnerable communities across the north.
This incident adds to a troubling trend of violence targeting schools, which has sparked renewed demands for stronger security measures in educational facilities, especially in rural and underserved areas of the region. As the situation evolves, concerns mount over the impact of these attacks on the safety and well-being of students in the region.
