Tragedy Strikes Lawrence: 18-Year-Old Dead and Friend Injured in Bar Shooting; Two Arrested for First-Degree Murder

LAWRENCE, Kan. — Tragedy struck outside a popular college bar early Saturday, resulting in the death of an 18-year-old and leaving his 16-year-old friend critically injured. Police have since charged two suspects with first-degree murder in connection with the incident, which has shocked the local community.

The victims, identified as Aidan Knowles and Brady Clark, were found shot on the patio of the Jayhawk Cafe, known to locals as “The Hawk.” The shooting occurred shortly before the bar’s closing time around 2 a.m. Knowles was pronounced dead at the scene, while Clark was rushed to a hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Clark’s family described the events as a “senseless act of violence,” expressing their gratitude for the support they have received since the shooting. “Our son is battling for his life, and we owe a debt of gratitude to the first responders and medical professionals who have worked tirelessly to aid him,” they said. The family also extended their condolences to Knowles’ loved ones, emphasizing the deep impact of this loss.

Knowles’ father, Bobby Knowles, took to social media to express his grief, stating that the victims were victims of unfortunate circumstances. He commended the medical staff and responders for their professionalism in handling the dire situation.

The Lawrence Police Department arrested 18-year-olds Caiden Clem and Daitron Daniels shortly after the shooting. Clem faces two charges: first-degree murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, while Daniels is facing several charges, including first-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder.

This incident is not an isolated event for the bar, as police reports indicate at least 59 calls related to incidents at the location over the past year. These included fights and disturbances, prompting proactive measures by bar staff to enforce liquor laws and monitor underage drinking.

In response to the shooting, The Hawk released a statement expressing their sorrow over the event. The establishment pledged to cooperate fully with law enforcement investigations while prioritizing the safety of patrons and staff.

As the community grapples with the aftermath of this violence, support for the victims’ families continues to pour in, highlighting an ongoing commitment to healing and remembrance. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of gun violence that can echo far beyond the immediate tragedy.
