WINCHESTER, Ky. — A peaceful neighborhood turned tragic Friday night when authorities responded to a residence where two individuals were found deceased in what is being investigated as a murder-suicide. The incident has rekindled concerns about domestic violence, particularly due to the suspect’s violent past.
Inside the home, police discovered the bodies of 35-year-old Ava Brantley and 38-year-old Tyler Snowden. Officials suspect that Snowden fatally shot Brantley before taking his own life. The investigation revealed that the two had a prior relationship fraught with tensions, and just a day before the incident, Brantley sought legal protection against Snowden.
According to Police Chief Travis Thompson, investigators believe that Snowden parked his vehicle away from the residence and broke in through a back window. “We feel confident that he is the perpetrator and that he came on the scene and took her life before ending his own,” Thompson stated.
Legal documents show that Brantley had obtained an emergency protective order against Snowden because of previous incidents marked by violence. Court records indicate that just last September, Snowden faced arrest after he allegedly attempted to run over another girlfriend with his vehicle. Witnesses reported that the victim feared for her life, citing previous threats made by Snowden.
Snowden had been charged with multiple counts related to that incident, including assault and wanton endangerment. Following a guilty plea, he was sentenced to seven years in prison, but was placed in a diversion program, which allowed for conditional release after two years. The conditions of that program included prohibitions against firearm possession, mandatory drug testing, and attendance in anger management counseling.
Despite the restrictions, only a month into the program, Snowden was involved in another domestic dispute, this time escalating into deadly violence. The details surrounding the incident have left many in the community grappling with grief and shock, prompting renewed conversations about the urgent need for resources and support for those affected by domestic violence.
As the investigation continues, police are urging anyone in similar situations to seek help and utilize available resources. Community leaders are also calling for increased awareness and proactive measures to prevent future tragedies.
