Turn: Lyft Driver Shot in Louisiana Linked to Deadly Carjacking Suspect’s Fatal Police Encounter in Texas

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A tragic series of events in Louisiana has led to the death of a suspected carjacker in Houston. Lawanna J. Lewis, a 62-year-old Lyft driver from Lake Charles, was shot multiple times while working and found dead in a ditch, according to authorities.

The incident unfolded Friday morning in Calcasieu Parish. Investigators reported that Lewis was targeted and her vehicle was stolen during the violent crime. The Sheriff’s Office later confirmed that her car was located later that evening in Harris County, Texas.

Around 10 p.m., law enforcement officers spotted the stolen vehicle on Beltway 8, close to the Crosby Freeway. When deputies initiated a traffic stop, the driver, identified as Tristan A. Bush, 26, attempted to evade police, leading them on a brief chase that ended in a parking lot. Bush and another passenger, Ethan I. Bush, 23, exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

While Tristan Bush managed to escape into a nearby neighborhood, Ethan Bush ran onto the busy Beltway 8 and was struck by a truck. Despite the truck driver’s cooperation at the scene and absence of intoxication, the incident resulted in Ethan Bush’s death. Authorities confirmed he displayed no signs of life when they arrived.

Tristan Bush has since been arrested and is charged with murder in connection with Lewis’s death. His bond has been set at $2.5 million as he awaits extradition back to Louisiana from Harris County.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the events, seeking further clarity on the motivations behind the carjacking that led to such a violent outcome. As the community processes this loss, officials are urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
