WICHITA, Kan. — A former television news anchor faces first-degree murder charges following the fatal stabbing of her elderly mother. Angelynn “Angie” Mock, 47, allegedly attacked her 80-year-old mother, Anita Avers, at their home, prompting a police response early Friday morning, October 31.
Authorities received a report of a “cutting” at the residence around 7:52 a.m. Upon arriving, officers found Mock outside the home and subsequently discovered Avers unresponsive in her bed with multiple stab wounds. Efforts to revive Avers at a local hospital were unsuccessful, and she was pronounced dead later that morning.
Mock, who suffered unspecified injuries, was also taken to the hospital before being booked into the Sedgwick County Jail. She is currently being held on a $1 million bond. Police have not disclosed a possible motive for the alleged attack, and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her mother’s death is ongoing.
Before this incident, Mock garnered recognition as a news anchor and reporter for Fox 2 in St. Louis, a role she held from 2011 to 2015. Her career later shifted toward sales in the tech industry, and she was employed at a data management software company at the time of her arrest.
The details surrounding Avers’ death have left the community in shock, as friends and family grapple with the tragedy. Mock’s initial court appearance is yet to be scheduled, leaving many questions about the case unanswered. Efforts to obtain further comment from the Sedgwick County Police Department following the incident have been unsuccessful.
