TOPEKA, Kan. — Authorities have charged two residents in the tragic death of a five-year-old child, a case that has shocked the local community.
Shawnee County District Attorney Mike Kagay announced that a thorough review of the investigation has been completed following the incident that occurred on January 27. The Topeka Police Department responded to an emergency medical call in the 500 block of SW Buchanan, where they discovered the child suffering from severe, life-threatening injuries. She was promptly transported to a nearby hospital but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries.
In the aftermath, police initiated a criminal investigation and subsequently arrested 24-year-old Lia Corbin and 35-year-old Kyle Valle, both residents of Topeka. They have since been booked into the Shawnee County Jail.
On February 2, both individuals were formally charged with multiple offenses, including first-degree murder. Corbin faces charges of premeditated murder, murder stemming from inherently dangerous felonies, aggravated child endangerment, child abuse, and other criminal offenses. Valle has been similarly charged, with specific allegations related to recklessness in endangering a child.
